Hello Dear Maestros. I mentioned in a recent newsletter shout-out that I was on a quest to embrace SPACE. In this journey, I am discovering that as a culture, there is so much we are continuously up against. For one, with the rise of technology & the means in which to make our lives easier, we’ve ironically created an overflow of information & materials which can quickly crowd our heads & make us feel heavy, weary & unmotivated. Infobesity seems to be the latest epidemic & the best cure I can think of is to make way for space by simply going on an information diet of sorts. From this place, FOCUS takes its shape.
WHERE DO WE BEGIN? At the beginning, of course. Think about how you start your day. Do you roll out of bed, flip on the television, grab your smartphone & start checking emails & Facebook? Do you devour the newspaper, chock full of all that illuminating news about murder, mayhem, & politics gone wrong?
STAY UNPLUGGED WHILE YOUR BODY & MIND WAKES. What would happen if you lay there for a few minutes, breathed deeply, noticed the light coming into the room, listened to the magnificent beating of your very own heart machine? What if you made yourself a nourishing breakfast, sipped that hot tea or coffee slowly while really savoring the tastes- no newspaper, or electronics at the front & center?
GROUND YOURSELF IN YOUR OWN CHOSEN REALITY. What if you made a small gesture towards a morning meditation? Something as simple as picking a word or an intention to carry you through your day? You don’t need a meditation cushion or incense or mudras to help you shift your energy towards something more expansive, but if these things serve you, by all means, use them. Studies show that taking even just a few minutes in the morning to touch base with positive affirmations & intentions create neural pathways that help you heal & feel better.
EVALUATE YOU INBOX. What if, when you finally did sit down to check your emails, you gave each one heartfelt scrutiny, determining whether it served your life’s purpose on any level? & by that, I mean aside from the distraction dance that so often sneaks in for a ten minute tango. Six of those & poof, there goes an hour!
DELETE. UNSUBSCRIBE. TUNE IN TO YOUR OWN THOUGHTS. I recently unsubscribed to loads of blogs & other newsletters I thought sounded just wonderful over the years. & not that they aren’t. It’s just that there is only so much time in the day, & only so much information my wee head can hold. If I fill every nook & cranny with all of the stuff that other people have to say, I’ll be hard pressed to find that voice inside of me that might have a thing or two to offer, also.
THE SKY’S THE LIMIT. BUT WHERE DO YOU AIM? What also happens is that the brain begins to be bogged down by all the possibility. There gets to be a place where too many options can overwhelm, causing you to stop dead in your tracks & not do a damn thing at all.
NOTICE WHAT FEELS GOOD. When you start making some space for your head, inevitably quantum physics take place, where the energy of your life starts to shape-shift & move- & likely in a way that feels more supportive of who you are & what you want. Notice when that’s happening, & how it feels to be in the midst of it. That’s the flow mojo at work. That’s where you get to sit back in your spaciousness & be your ultimate YOU.
Our culture reinforces this notion that we need to fill every nook & cranny with “doing” & that we need to BE somebody. But really, if we take back our focus, if we look within to really see the brilliant light of who we are & listen in above the din for what WE have to say, we’ll clearly see that we already ARE somebody, & we need not do anything at all than appreciate this moment before us & proceed from there- how & when we choose to.
Have a fantastic day, dear Maestro. May you feel light, clear & ready to fly with your ever-present wings.
