Just for the record, I am NOT here to judge the juice. As creatives, we all have our specific issues, & mine are part of the mojo that got this blog started in the first place.
My aim is to explore the ways in which to meet our juice head-on so that we can ultimately move past them, or at the very least, learn to adapt so that it works FOR us rather than against us. Have lemons, make lemonade so to speak.
Or maybe even decide that being sticky isn’t so bad after all. It’s what makes you, you, right?
My sticky point has always been not being able to manifest the money mojo behind my creative drive.
Wait, strike that. That’s not entirely true. Rather, when it comes to the expression of my creativity through MY art, I am usually hobbling along in the dollars department. Consulting & coaching for others in this arena? No problem. (Ironic, isn’t it?)
The irony is this: that subconsciously, I allow myself to feel & act like a professional around my coaching & consulting, but on some level, I have disregarded these principals towards my creative work.
Being professional requires acting professional & applying the constructs of business to my creative work.
Geez, what a concept.
Thus, the next series of posts were born- from a jolt I had at 3 a.m. one night in which I had to write it all down. (When the mighty voice speaks, I listen).
I figure that the best way to offer forth authentic material here on Flow Mojo is to document some of my own processes. As some of you might already know if you’ve read some of my previous posts, I am taking a cold, hard, honest look at my choices about where I invest my energy instead of bemoaning why my creative babies aren’t going anywhere or criticizing myself on the fact that I “can’t get it together.”
& then I’m holding myself accountable.
How? By initiating FORM to help generate FLOW in those arenas. In other words, by building a structure that I can follow.
It is my hope that by trying on varying degrees of form I will find something that fits comfortably* enough so that it feels EASY to flow forward.
Yep, you heard me. EASY.
EASY happens when you work from a space of focus, joy, inspiration, trust & a willingness to consistently show up, amplifying clarity & momentum.
Which leads to a ripple effect that is oh-so-good.
Clarity = Empowerment = Momentum = Velocity = Ease =Clarity & so on. You find a groove that moves forward.
Is that asterisk above still bugging you? Read on.
*This isn’t to say it doesn’t take effort. Commitment. A willingness to show up & do the work (I repeat, a willingness to show up & do the work)- which sometimes includes the stuff we think we don’t necessarily love at first (or maybe ever).
It can certainly be a little uncomfortable in the beginning. Most new things can for those predisposed to resistance.
EXAMPLE: Though I have resisted form for decades, I’m finding that once I’ve worked with a form that fits me well for a while, it provides a platform for me to move forward easily. The ease, in short, is sometimes EARNED through dedication & willingness to be open to the process, & to learning to tolerate that which I find uncomfortable while knowing it is serving the greater good.
& the process (& I do so LOVE process) is often helped along with actionable goals.
On that note, I am going to spend the next 11 posts offering tipping points towards actionable goals. 11 because that is the number of actionable tips there were when I counted them up after jotting them down at 3:00 a.m. 11 because it’s lucky. 11 because it sounds good with “essentials.”
&, well, because 11 is one higher. (I couldn’t resist).
So if you’d like to see if that old adage of doing what you love & the money following is true but you aren’t quite sure how to get there, stay tuned.
(I’m pretty sure it is).
So, until we meet next, consider this:
- Are you creating a sustainable living with your creativity now?
- What does your current form/structure look like for your creative work?
- Does your work flow forward with ease & momentum?
- What area(s) do you feel most challenged?
- How do you let people know of the work you do?
I’d love your insights & questions…shout it out at the FLOW MOJO FACEBOOK PAGE.
